Fred Harwin makes prosthetic eyes, hand painting each one so it perfectly matches the patient’s other eye. Fred paints from life, spending eight hours, sitting directly across from his patient, in a series of three sessions. He could work faster but, he says, “I pride myself on my slowness.” Fred believes the time he spends with the patient is an important part of the healing process. “They have lost something – I want to help make them whole again.”
